WHAT DOES IT COVER?
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the cornerstone
of PADI´s professional Level training. Becoming a PADI Instructor
consists of these segments - knowledge development, practical application
and the Instructor Examination. The online portion of the course covers
nine topics which prepare you for the practical sessions needed to complete
your IDC. Through PADI´s eLearning system and practical segments
of the IDC, you are introduced to the complete PADI System of Diver
Education, and you learn to use it as a professional dive educator -
a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
WHAT ARE THE PADI IDC PREREQUISITES?
Prior to enrolling in the PADI IDC, you must be at least
18 years old, have a current medical attesting to your diving fitness
signed by a physician within the previous 12 months, and hold a leadership
level diving certification such as the PADI Divemaster rating. You must
also have been a certified diver for at least six months and be able
to prove that you have completed at least 60 dives (100 before attending
the IE). If you have any questions as to whether you meet the necessary
prerequisites, please contact David
Taylor, our Platinum Course Director.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After enrolling, PADI´s eLearning system presents
you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics
and reading. Short quizzes let you gauge progress, and review and correct
anything you might happen to miss. This let you move through the programme
efficiently and at your own pace.
WHAT ELSE IS REQUIRED TO BECOME A PADI INSTRUCTOR?
You need to attend an IDC to complete any further presentations
and all the practical segments of the course. Prior to attending the
PADI IE, you need to complete the PADI Emergency First Response Instructor
or hold an equivalent certification. Once you have successfully completed
the IDC, you enrol in a two day Instructor Examination (IE). When you
successfully complete the IE and all requirements are verified at PADI,
you earn the PADI Instructor rating.
David and Yvonne at Tenerife Dive hope that you can come
over and complete the inwater training parts of the course with us but
of course understand that time and cost make it not always possible.
We have many Instructor partners in various parts of the UK that we
can put you in contact with or alternatively if you have a preferred
PADI dive centre local to you, just print out the completion form and
take that along to the PADI Instructor.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The eLearning portion of the course is 195 pounds, non
refundable, if purchased as an Access Pass through Tenerife Dive. Your
PADI IDC centre will charge you for the practical application portion
and any other sections not covered in the online course. After completion
of the IDC, you must successfully complete a PADI Instructor Examination
(IE). Other Costs - There are fees payable to PADI for the IDC registration,
PADI Instructor Examination and PADI EFR Instructor application.
Materials - To take an IDC, you need a current PADI Instructor
Manual and the IDC Crewpak that includes the PADI´s Guide to Teaching
with verification sticker. There are other required materials and equipment,
some of which you may already have. Please contact David or Yvonne for
a list of required materials.
HOW
LONG DO YOU HAVE TO COMPLETE THE PADI eLEARNING COURSE?
The eLearning segment of the course is available for 12
months from the time of course registration.
HOW DO YOU GET STARTED?
Very easy, just email Yvonne
and ask for an ACCESS PASS for the IDC Online Course. If you wish to
pay by Bank Transfer she will send back the details, or if you wish
to pay by Credit Card we just need the number and expiry date. A Link
to the PADI website and instructions on how to get started will be sent
with the Access Pass. If you wish to purchase the Access Pass as a gift
for someone else, no problem just let me know the name and if you wish
to add any message, we can either send this back to you for forwarding
or can send direct if you supply the email address.
